Rivet Innovate had the pleasure of designing, creating, and commissioning the Hokonui Moonshine distillery, a project steeped in history and craftsmanship. The Hokonui brand, known for its legendary Southland whisky (inspired by the moonshine of the early pioneers) needed a modern distillery that would pay homage to its heritage while embracing cutting-edge design and functionality.

Our team was tasked with creating a distillery that not only reflected the rugged, independent spirit of Hokonui Moonshine but also delivered a functional, state-of-the-art space for whisky production.

The design needed to blend industrial aesthetics with a warm, welcoming feel that aligns with the brand’s story. From the copper stills to the unique architectural elements, every detail had to reflect the craftsmanship and tradition of whisky-making.

From concept through to completion, this was a collaborative effort between Rivet Innovate and the Hokonui team. We started by carefully studying the brand’s history and the space requirements of a modern distillery, integrating these elements into a cohesive design. Using our expertise in metalwork, we crafted custom copper stills that serve as the focal point of the distillery, embodying the timeless tradition of whisky production.

The completed Hokonui Moonshine Whisky Distillery is a space that captures the essence of tradition while embracing modern efficiency. The industrial elements, such as the corten steel accents, complement the rustic yet refined atmosphere, creating an environment that is both visually stunning and highly functional.
